I haven't played Final Fantasy XII, so I'll defer to you guys on that. Thanks for your input!

Also, I noticed this in Tycho's news post on today's Penny Arcade strip:

As the presentation [of Fallout 3] concluded, I nodded my assent. Gabriel was agitated by how large a role your character's skills played, compared to your own manipulation of the controller. I determined that if he didn't like it, well, they must be doing something right.

It'll be interesting to see how Fallout 3 turns out, as it's being developed by Bethesda as well. They're going to have a hell of a time keeping fans of the series happy while also making the new controls and perspective work logically.

I felt the same way about the combat originally, but for some reason, the MMO grind (WoW in my case, big surprise) doesn't particularly bother me, because I didn't FEEL like moving too much should make a difference. In FF XII, I've been limited to side screen combat for so long, suddenly I can move and it... doesn't matter?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Good Post.

I think you've hit the nail on the head for why I didn't enjoy the combat in Final Fantasy 12. I could never wrap my head around the fact that my moving my character away from the creature had no effect on how much damage I gave or received let alone that we were too far away to touch. Given that, why have it so I can run around at all? Instead of adding to the combat it just made it feel more artificial.
