This also happened to me in Trials HD for example. I found myself trying over 150 times to get atop of the same impossible obstacle for 20 minutes! Just because you instantly respawn before the obstacle and you are allowed to try to pass it indefinitely.

JPLC: Oh, I had much more trouble on the way up; I think fewer than fifty of my deaths were on the way down. By that point, though, my eyes were starting to glaze over. It was just difficult enough to be ridiculous, but not so hard that I decided not to do it. (That unlockable one-life mode, though? Hell no.)

sylvainulg: He is unusually fast, isn't he? I bet there's a pun about friction in there somewhere :-)

Jordan: I've heard a little about Super Meat Boy, but haven't looked into it yet. Thanks for the tip!

Given this, I think you will really enjoy Super Meat Boy when it comes out. Edmund and Tommy have taken great pains to make exactly the kind of accessibility, and difficulty with instant respawn and not consequences.

And hey, maybe you will enjoy my audio while you are dying ; )

very true. I guess that and the fact that the captain's speed is sufficiently high explain how VVVVVV manages to keep us stuck to playing despite the impressive amount of failures we do.

Not only there are no penalty, but also there is the guarantee that if we manage to do it right, we won't have to do it twice.

Ah, VVVVVV. Money well spent.

And yes, that part was brutal, but I could not turn away for the life of me until I finished it.

The most draining part of that sequence was that you had to come back down to get the trinket. Going up was hard enough. =P
